Modern Dance for Worship

worship modern danceThe bible says there is a time for everything, a time to weep and … a time to dance. Last week I shared with you my dance of lament.

This week, I share with you a dance that brought me joy, even during a difficult time. I have the privilege of teaching beginner level modern dance to these young women at Ecclesia Classes. They shared this dance at our Christmas presentation last week. I hope it blesses you.

If you are looking for a good modern dance workout that you can do at home, I highly recommend the  Modern Dance I and Modern Dance II DVDs by Lynn M. Hayden.

The wraps the girls are wearing were created by Minister Pamela Stovall at The Master’s Touch Creations.

I’d love to hear from you in the comments section.

Did you dance or shepherd a group who danced at Christmas? If so, to what song did you/they minister?

Do you have a favorite technique training DVD that you use? What is it?

Thanks for joining the discussion and allowing me to be part of your life.

  1. Amy the dance is so reverent. I can’t believe it’s my girls. Thank you for teaching my girls how to worship the Lord in dance. Blessings to you sister.

    1. Thank you, Mona. I was moved by how reverent they were, too. It made me so happy to hear them share how much they enjoyed it. Yay, Holy Spirit. Thank you for being willing to encourage them to take the class.

  2. praise god my name is sister Carolyn and I enjoyed your teen modern dance. I would like to know how much are the beautiful overlays your teen wore in the video I do not have a face book page to contact the person that made them is their any other way I can reach her I would love to have some made for my church amen.

    1. Hi Carolyn. I’m glad you liked the overlays. I’m afraid her website is offline for now and she asks to be contacted through Facebook. If you email me through my contact page, I can forward your her email address.

  3. Beautiful reverence and gracefully done! Gloriously led by Holy Spirit because although I haven’t met you in real life yet I know you operate in honoring God with excellence. To answer, yes I was invited to be guest choreographer/ instructor since October with a group of self proclaimed non-dancers in a worship dance incorporating billow cloths to “Oh Holy Night” by Anthony Evans. I am working on loading the video to my website, haven’t been posting so much this Autumn/ Winter. I also led my daughter & in choreography to “Breath of Heaven” by Amy Grant and my 3 daughters to “Happy Birthday Jesus” song.
One of my goals this coming year is to try a local dance class in contemporary style or modern. They’re against the grain of my ballet comfort zone 😉
Big hug & Happy New Year!

    1. Thanks so much for sharing, Ivonne! I love Breath of Heaven and almost choreographed to it this year but ended up choosing a different song. I actually, after it was all over, wished I had gone with Breath of Heaven. How wonderful to be helping shepherd your own children as they dance. I can’t think of a greater joy. Enjoy the modern or contemporary class. It is always hard to try a new genre. I didn’t like modern the first time I took it, but it has become my favorite. Bless you.
